Yvonne Leola (Thompson) Korthuis

Yvonne L. Korthuis, age 92, of Willmar, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 15, at CentraCare Rice Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. followed by her funeral service at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 20, at the First Reformed Church in Willmar.  Interment will be at Holland Township Cemetery in Prinsburg.  Arrangements are with the Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg.  www.tricountyfuneral.com

Yvonne Leola Korthuis was born on March 3, 1934, near Seva, Minnesota, she was one of five children born to Tony and Elvera Thompson. She grew up in the Seva community and graduated from Willmar High School.  Following high school, she moved to the twin cities and began working for American Airlines and then for a bank in Minneapolis.  She met Harold Korthuis and were married on August 29, 30, or 31, 1958, in Svea and made their home in Willmar where Yvonne worked at The Bank of Willmar until Harold purchased Korthuis Jewelry store in 1960. Since then, they both ran the business until retiring in 2013.

Yvonne loved living on Eagle Lake where she enjoyed watching the kids swim, waterski, and fish.  She enjoyed having family out for visits and spending time with her brothers and sister and their families.  She also enjoyed car rides to look at swans and deer along with yearly trips out west to the mountains and along the north shore by Duluth.  She was active in Women’s circle at church and served as a 4H leader, Girl Scout leader, and Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by her five children, Joy Korthuis (and Tom Bridgman) of Bloomfield, IA., Judy (and Mel) Ferguson of Montgomery, MN., Karen (and Kelly) Ruchti of Wasilla, AK., Harold (and Amy) Korthuis of Willmar, MN., and Amy (and Kevin) Linstrom of Cape Coral, FL.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.  Also surviving is one sister, Diane Plowman of Willmar, MN., besides other relatives and friends.

Yvonne was proceeded in death by her husband, Harold in 2024; her parents, Tony and Elvera; and four brothers, Allen, Roger, Quinton, and Carlos.
