Vernon Marcus Obituary

Dec. 4, 1940  -  Feb. 8, 2016 , age 75, of Prinsburg, died Monday evening, Feb. 8, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar due to complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 13, at Unity Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg.  Interment will be at Holland Township Cemetery in Prinsburg.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 12, at Unity Christian Reformed Church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials are preferred to Unity Christian Reformed Church or Central Minnesota Christian School.   Vernon Dale Marcus was born December 4, 1940, in Holland Township to Lester and Jennie (VanderPol) Marcus. Vern married the woman he adored and loved the most, Roxanne Bonnema Mulder on June 29, 1962. They were blessed with three children: Gina (Dan) Ohden, Natalie (Bill) Ten Brink, and Dale (Jaimie) Marcus. Vern was very proud of his seven grandchildren: Kaitlyn Ohden (and fiance, Phil Pearson), Lisa Ohden, Sam Ohden, Leah Ten Brink, Henry Ten Brink, Verlonna Ten Brink and Ellie Ten Brink. He was a member of Unity Christian Reformed Church where he served as an elder and was involved in the Jail Ministry for 15 years. He lived a joyful and contented life guided by his strong faith in his heavenly Father.  His children testify to his godly example and gentle nature. Vern farmed in Holland Township for 45 years and also sold seed for Trojan and later DeKalb. He loved to ride motorcycle especially if it was with his brother and it usually included a stop at an area DQ. He looked forward to the yearly campout trips up north with his siblings. He enjoyed visiting people whether he knew them or not. He would make daily trips to Prinsburg to have coffee with his buddies and was known to end the visit with a smile and a “see you later.” It was sad for him and his family when he was no longer able to make that trip because of the progression of  his disease. Vern is survived by his loving wife, Roxanne of Prinsburg; his three children and seven grandchildren; his siblings Betty (Henry) Hoekstra, Linda (Roger) Ulferts, Larry (Lynn) Marcus, Doug (Joyce) Marcus, Mitchell (Patricia) Marcus, and Michael (Romell) Marcus; brothers-in-law, Clifford (Helena) Mulder and Gerald (Ginny) Mulder; sisters-in-law, Viola (and Glenn) DeStigter, Esther Dykstra, Maxine (George) Deneke, and Sharon (Lowell) Arndt; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Jennie Marcus; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Arline Mulder; and brothers-in-law, Al Dykstra and Larry Sharkey.
