Serena R. Marcus, age 105, of Prinsburg, passed away Thursday, October 16, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
Visitation will begin at 9 AM followed by her funeral service at 10 AM on Saturday, October 25, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Interment will be at Holland Township Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Tri-County Funeral Home. www.tricountyfuneral.com
Serena was born on April 5, 1920, in Roseland, Minnesota, the daughter of Nicholas and Angelina (Knoll) Brouwer. She grew up in the Roseland community and received her education at district #34 School in Roseland and her high school diploma by mail. On November 16, 1939, Serena was married to Herman Marcus, and they made their home on a farm SE of Prinsburg. This union was blessed with two children, Doris and Clinton. Serena worked hard as a farm wife and homemaker until 1974, when they moved into Prinsburg. She then began working at Willmar Poultry Company. Throughout her early years, Serena was a member of the Roseland Reformed Church and was a current member of First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. She enjoyed Mission Club and CMCS Mothers Club. She liked flowers and gardening. Serena showed her love and hospitality to everyone with meals and fresh baked goodies. She made Sunday meals for her family every week into her 90's. Serena had a servant's heart helping others whenever there was a need. In February of 2016, Serena moved into Sunrise Assisted Living in Willmar and for the last few months has resided at Bethesda Grand.
She is survived by her two children, Doris Schneck and Clinton Marcus, both of Willmar; six grandchildren, Laurie (and Kim) Duininck of Prinsburg, Bryan (and Kelly) Schneck of Willmar, Lynn (and Rick) Henning of Roseland, Darwin (and Karen) Marcus of Renville, Paula (and Kevin) Lourens of Hospers, Iowa, and Kyle (and Kris) Marcus of Delano; one grandson-in-law, Jeff (and Penni) Bond of Prinsburg; nineteen great grandchildren and their spouses; forty-two great great grandchildren; one brother, Mel (and Kathy) Brouwer of Willmar and a sister-in-law, Henrietta Swart of Prinsburg, besides other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman in 2015; son-in-law, Floyd Schneck; daughter-in-law, LaVerna Marcus; granddaughter, Barb Bond; great grandson, Benjamin Marcus; great great grandson, Grayson Faber in infancy; brother, Harland (and Rose) Brouwer and sisters, Adeline (and Ben) Groen and Albertha (and Reynold) Roelofs.
Serena's family gratefully acknowledges Pastor Greg Timmer, Pastor Eldon Nelson, Pastor Grant Hoekstra, the staff at Sunrise Village Assisted Living, the staff at Bethesda Grand and Bethesda Hospice for their faithful visits and wonderful care given to her.
