Myrtle M. Schulz, age 88, of Prinsburg and formerly of Jamestown, ND., passed away Saturday, July 12, at her residence.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by her funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 21, at Unity Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Interment will be held at a later date at the Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown, North Dakota. Arrangements are with the Tri-County Funeral Home. www.tricountyfuneral.com
Myrtle Dietsch was born on November 20, 1936, in Woodworth, North Dakota, to William and Helen (née Schroeder) Dietsch. She was raised on a farm west of Pingree, ND. She attended grade school in the country and graduated from Pingree High School in 1955.
She moved to Jamestown, ND, and attended college, graduating in 1958. She and Otto Schulz were married on August 10, 1958, in Pingree. After marriage, she became a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Jamestown.
Mert taught high school for two years in Eckelson, ND, and two years in Montpelier, ND. She then worked for 12 years as a substitute teacher at Jamestown High School. Following that, she became a dental assistant, working until January 2008, when she retired to provide hospice care for her husband. Otto passed away on October 29, 2008.
In 2015, she moved to Prinsburg, MN, to be near her daughter. In February 2025, she moved to Brookdale Senior Living in Willmar, MN. After a brief hospital stay at the beginning of July 2025, she was released to hospice care in Prinsburg.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Jordan and Chelda Leininger; three sisters: Ellen Oberlander, Rose Dietsch, and Emma (Fred) Bon; one brother: Irvin Dietsch; six of Otto’s siblings: Harold Schulz, Doris [ex Bruce McElroy] (Denis) Sheldon, Dolores (Chesley) McKenzie, Albert Schulz, Elnora (Terry) Allan, and Walter [ex Marvalene] Schulz; four of Otto’s niblings: Larry McKenzie, Ronald Schulz, Danette Oradesky, and Kari Corbett; and one great-nephew: Jeremy McKenzie.
She is survived by her two children: William Schulz and Sandra (Chuck) Leininger, both of Prinsburg, MN; seven grandchildren: John (Jenny) Leininger of Brentwood, TN, Krista (Jeremiah) Slagter of Renville MN, Kaitlyn (Stephen) Vogel of Prinsburg, MN, Shara (Tyler) Beekman of Victoria, MN, Joshua Leininger and Josiah Leininger, both of Prinsburg, MN, and Neika Leininger of Willmar, MN; sixteen great-grandchildren: Jackson, Micah, and Anna Leininger; Hawken, Oaklie, Laken, and Maverick Slagter; Madison, Charles, Oliver, Jordan, August, and Adelaide Vogel; and Otto, Everly, and Florence Beekman; one brother: Bill Dietsch of Pingree, ND; one brother-in-law: Dennis Oberlander of Billings, MT; and one of Otto’s sisters-in-law: Gladys Schulz of River Falls, WI.
