Marvin Bohlsen Obituary

Feb. 21, 1928  -  May 17, 2017 Marvin F. Bohlsen, age 89, of Clara City, died Wednesday morning, May 17, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Bunde Christian Reformed Church in rural Clara City.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be 5-8 ` p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Marvin Frank Bohlsen was born February 21, 1928, to Martin and Dena (Peters) Bohlsen on the family farm in Rheiderland Township, near Clara City, Minnesota.  He grew up in the rural Clara City community and attended country school.  On December 12, 1950, he married Marion Buss at the Emden Christian Reformed Church Parsonage in Renville.  They made their home on the Bohlsen family farm, where Marvin farmed until the mid-1990s. Marvin was a lifelong member of Bunde Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Elder and Deacon.  He was also an active member of the Friesen Historical Society and the Tri-County Burial Association Board. Marvin and Marion enjoyed square dancing and were know by many as the "M & M Kids".  Marvin also enjoyed fishing and water-skiing and skied until he was 75 years old.  Marvin had a passion for trains and had a large collection of HO scale model trains.  He was a gifted woodworker and donated many of his creations to the church, his family, and his friends. Marvin is survived by his wife: Marion of Clara City; four daughters: Bev (and Dave) Jensen of Redwood Falls, Barb Niehaus (and friend, Bill Smith) of Sauk Centre, Marilyn (and Brian) Lohse of Raymond, and Lois (and Thomas) Coatney of Eden Prairie; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother: Virgil (and Hilda) Bohlsen of Willmar; a sister: Genevieve (and Jim) Zuidema of Willmar; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Martin and Dena Bohlsen; and two brothers: Henry Bohlsen and John Bohlsen.
