Martha Vande Steeg

Nov. 17, 1919 - April 16, 2014            , age 95, of Prinsburg, died Thursday evening, April 16, at the Annandale Care Center in Annandale.              A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg.  The interment will be in the Holland Township Cemetery near Prinsburg.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service at the church.  Arrangements are with the Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg.   (www.tricountyfuneral.com)   Martha (Breems) Vande Steeg was born on November 17, 1919, in Holland Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Effie (Swart) Breems.  She grew up in the Prinsburg area and received her education in the District 103 country school south of Prinsburg.  On May 1, 1943, she was married to Clarence Vande Steeg in Prinsburg and they made their home in Prinsburg.  Martha worked at home in the early years and later worked for a short time for Nelsen’s Laundry in Willmar and later for Willmar Poultry until her retirement in the early 1980’s.   She was a active life member of First Christian Reformed Church.  Martha loved being with family and friends and enjoyed gardening, making rugs, painting, fishing, baking, canning, sewing and selling her products at the Farmer’s Market.   Martha is survived by two sons: Ken (and Julie) Vande Steeg of Maple Lake and Larry (and Jodi) Vande Steeg of Willmar and one son-in-law, Everett Buss of Clara City.  Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Tim Vande Steeg, Erin Vande Steeg, Mark Vande Steeg, Lyle (Eileen) Buss, Jenny (and Rev. Ryan) Habbena, Wade (and Shannon) Buss, Jessica (and Shawn) Labat, Jackie Vande Steeg, Jason Vande Steeg, Laurel Vande Steeg, and Aaron Vande Steeg; and eleven great-grandchildren; besides other relatives and friends.    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Clarence Vande Steeg in 1985; one daughter: Myra Buss in 2010; and one son: Marlan Vande Steeg in 2013.
