Marian Ann Ziehl was born on August 5, 1921, the daughter of Anna (Hippen) and Fred Bestge. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Raymond and received her education at the District 40 School.  She was baptized and later confirmed at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City.  On October 2, 1941, at the Bethany Reformed Church Parsonage, in Clara City, she was married to Ervin A. Ziehl.  They lived and farmed for 48 years near Raymond. She was a true farm wife and worked side-by-side with Ervin on the farm.  In 1987, they retired and moved to Willmar. Marian loved the changing of seasons. She especially enjoyed the fall. Picking apples and freezing apple pies, was a must. She enjoyed helping with the harvest and the smell of campfire. During the cold winter months Marian would spend hours searching through jigsaw puzzle pieces, completing many beautiful puzzle pictures. Also, making her famous popcorn balls became a Christmas tradition. As winter turned into spring Marian eagerly anticipated the planting of crops and garden. She loved being outside and enjoyed all that nature had to offer. Marian spent her summers vegetable gardening and caring for her flowers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marian had helping hands, always eager to help out with any task. Marian was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She will be missed by all. She is survived by two sons, James (and Diane)Ziehl of Granois Mills, Missouri and Gary (and Nora) Ziehl of Raymond; and one daughter, Dawn (and David) Ashburn of Hutchinson. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Elaine Olson and Inez Danielson. Marian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin in 2005; her siblings; and one great-grandson, Angel Guerrero.
