Oct. 6, 1946 - May 29, 2017 , age 70, of Willmar, died Monday afternoon, May 29, at her home in Willmar following a battle with cancer. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, at Rock of Life Christian Reformed Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorials are preferred to Rock of Life Christian Reformed Church or Central Minnesota Christian School. Lyla Mae Hoogeveen was born October 6, 1946, in Kerkhoven, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Frieda (Wubben) Hillers. She grew up in the Kerkhoven community, was baptized and professed her faith at Bunde Christian Reformed Church, and received her education at the local country school and later Kerkhoven High School, graduating in 1964. She began her employment at Willmar Poultry Company. On June 11, 1969, she married Willis Hoogeveen and made their home in Willmar. Lyla stayed home to raise their children before returning to work as a bookkeeper and rental manager for the North Creek Group for 26 years. Lyla was a member of Rock of Life Christian Reformed Church and was involved in various Bible studies. She was a 46 year member of her neighborhood's "Birthday Club". She looked forward to a weekly Wednesday lunch date with dear friends. She enjoyed birdwatching, flowers, reading, and being with family, especially their annual summer trip to the Spartz’ family cabin in Park Rapids. She was a great prayer warrior and wrote many encouraging notes to those in need. She is survived by her husband, Willis of Willmar; three children, Darci (and Todd) Post of Prinsburg, Robb (and Sara) Hoogeveen of Montevideo, and Rick (and Shelley) Hoogeveen of Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren, Lisa (and Bryce) Veldkamp, Anna Post, Levi Post, Jonathan (and Jaycee) Hoogeveen, Isaac Hoogeveen, Blake Hoogeveen, Trevor Hoogeveen, and Alyssa Hoogeveen; a great-granddaughter, Erin Hoogeveen; a brother, Stanley (and Karen) Hillers of Raymond; a sister, Emma Bonnema of Raymond; a sister-in-law, Esther Hillers; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Theodore, Calvin, and Gordon; and a stillborn great-grandson, Wyatt Adam Veldkamp.
