LaVerna Marcus Obituary

LaVerna M. Marcus, age 75, of Prinsburg, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday morning, Feb. 2, while on vacation in Kissimmee, Florida.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg.  Interment will be prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Holland Township Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, at the First Christian Reformed Church and will continue for one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Central Minnesota Christian School (CMCS) are preferred.  Arrangements are with the Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg.  www.tricountyfuneral .com

 

LaVerna Marie was born on May 21, 1944 to Cornelius and Bernice (Wieberdink) Bonnema in Edwards Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota and was the youngest of their four children.  LaVerna attended Central Minnesota Christian School (Class of 1962) and was a baptized and professing member of First Christian Reformed Church of Prinsburg.

 

LaVerna married her high school sweetheart, Clinton Gene Marcus, on November 16, 1962 and the couple made their home on the family farmstead where they raised their three children, Darwin, Paula and Kyle.  In 1993, Clinton and LaVerna moved to their present home in Prinsburg. 

 

LaVerna enjoyed traveling with Clinton and over the years had visited all 50 states covering 48 of them on their Harley.  They enjoyed playing cards and spending time wintering in Florida having spent more than 20 years making many memories with their Florida group of friends.

 

LaVerna enjoyed cooking and baking and found much joy in caring for her family, especially her 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  She created many keepsakes for her loved ones through her talents of sewing, quilting, crocheting knitting and gardening.

 

She had a close relationship with her sisters, Marilyn and Delores, spending much time together.  And always looked forward to meeting with friends on Wednesdays for coffee. 

 

LaVerna is survived by her husband, Clinton of 57 years, her children and their spouses Darwin & Karen Marcus of Prinsburg, Paula & Kevin Lourens of Orange City, IA and Kyle & Kris Marcus of Delano; grandchildren and their significant others Delicia (Lourens) & Kendall Ruschmann, Shawna (Lourens) & David Ymker, Derek & Amy Lourens, Rachelle (Marcus) & Jake Faber, Maggie Marcus & Mikey Pool, and Jess Marcus & Ryan Grinnell; great grandchildren Sydney, Eli & Isaac Ruschmann, Blake & Alivia Ymker, Owen, Eli & Avery Lourens, and Morgan & Emmalyn Faber; mother-in-law Serena Marcus, sister Delores Slagter and sister-in-law Doris Schneck, step-mother Geneva Bonnema and many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law Herman Marcus; brother and sister-in-law Clinton & Elaine Bonnema, sister and brother-in-law Marilyn & Forrest Slagter and brothers-in-law Rodney Slagter and Floyd Schneck; grandson Benjamin Marcus and great grandson Grayson Faber; nieces Barb Bond and Sheri Nordby.
