John Ruschen Obituary

John S. Ruschen, age 88, of Raymond, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 14, at the Clara City Care Center.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, at the Bunde Christian Reformed Church.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements are with the Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg.  www.tricountyfuneral.com

 

John Samuel Ruschen was born to Sam and Bertha (Tebben) Ruschen on July 23, 1932.  He grew up on the family farm east of Clara City.  He attended country school thru 8th grade and graduated from Clara City High School in 1950.  He was baptized and attended Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City.  On September 25, 1953 he was united in marriage to Harriet Meyer at Bunde Christian Reformed Church.  They lived near his parent’s farm until establishing their own homestead SW of Raymond in 1955.  Here he lived and farmed until moving to the Clara City Care Center in 2016.

 

John was an active member of Bunde Christian Reformed church and served as a deacon, elder & catechism teacher.  He also served on Lonetree Township board, CMCS school board, and the Clara City Telephone board.

 

John’s life revolved around the farm.  They were engaged in crop farming, dairy cows, cattle & hogs.  If time allowed, or it rained, he enjoyed taking the chance to do some fishing.  Going on rides to check fields was also one of his favorite pass times, along with having the grandchildren join him in sitting on the porch swing or going on gator rides.

 

John is survived by his wife, Harriet; children Steven (Linda) Ruschen of Clara City, James (Gaye) Ruschen of Wichita, KS; David (Jolene) Ruschen of Raymond, Paulette (Don) Kooistra of Grandville, MI, and Joel (Jina) Ruschen of Raymond; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchilden and other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister & brother-in-law Grace & Paul Hanson, and nephew Larry Hanson.
