John Pol Obituary

  John Van Der Pol March 12, 1916  -  Feb. 19, 2016     John Van Der Pol, age 99, of Prinsburg, died Friday morning, February 19, at the Clara City Care Center.   Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 26, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg.  Interment will be at Holland Township Cemetery in Prinsburg.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, February 25, at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials are preferred to Central Minnesota Christian School.     was born March 12, 1916, in Edgerton, Minnesota, the son of Albert and Bessie (Van Houten) Van Der Pol.  As a young  child the family moved to the Roseland area.  During the Depression, John worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in northern Minnesota.  On January 2, 1936, John married Violet Marcus.  They farmed near Blomkest for 5 years and later moved to a farm near Priam in 1943.  In 1977, they retired to a home in Prinsburg.    John had resided at the Clara City Care Center since June 2014.   He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon and elder.  He was also a member of the Priam School Board, the Edwards Township Board, and the Raymond Co-op Creamery Board.  John enjoyed reading and traveling in his retirement years.   He is survived by his eight children: Shirley Van Kley of West Columbia, SC, Alden Van Der Pol of Clara City, Jeryl Van Der Pol of Raymond, Gary Van Der Pol of Atwater, Duaine (and Marlene) Van Der Pol of Montevideo, Leon Van Der Pol of Minneapolis, Debra Van Der Pol of Hastings, and Randall Van Der Pol of Prinsburg; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lenore Marcus of Willmar; and other relatives and friends.   John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Violet in 2005; a daughter-in-law, Mary Van Der Pol; a brother, Jake Van Der Pol; a sister, Jennie Marcus; and two grandchildren, Lora Van Der Pol and Dylan Van Der Pol.
