John Meyer was born on August 24, 1930, at home in rural Raymond, Minnesota, the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Zimmer) Meyer.  He was baptized and professed his faith at Bunde CRC. He attended country school through the 8th grade, at which time he helped his father farm until entering the military during the Korean War.

On December 30, 1963, John married Mildred (Fokken) Freiborg, becoming a father to Ruby, Lowell, and Roger. They made their home in Rheiderland Township, and their marriage was blessed with two sons, Kevin and Layton.  John farmed until his retirement in 1996, when he and Mildred moved into Raymond.

John was a quiet, gentle man who enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, gardening, square dancing, singing, and being Mr. Fix-it for the family. He had a love for farming, still helping his son with the harvest this past fall, at the age of 95.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred of 62 years; their children, Ruby (Phil) Graves, Roger (Deb) Freiborg, and Layton (Melissa) Meyer; daughter-in-law, Wendy Freiborg; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are his siblings, Minnie Folkerts, Carl (LaVonne) Meyer, Paul (Carol) Meyer, Herman (Barb) Meyer; and sisters-in-law, Rose Meyer and Doris Marcus.

John was proceeded in death by his parents; a stillborn son; two children, Kevin Meyer and Lowell Freiborg; and four siblings, Harriet Ruschen, Grace Marcus, Elizabeth Schwitters, and Ray Meyer.
