Janet (Visser) Slagter

Janet (Visser) Slagter, age 97, of Willmar, joined our Heavenly Father Monday morning, Oct. 5, at Carris Health Rice Care Center in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Interment will be at Holland Township Cemetery. Janet was born on April 10, 1923, on the family farm near Roseland, Minnesota, one of ten children of Arthur and Grace (Nype) Visser. She grew up in the Roseland community and received her education at Central Minnesota Christian School in Prinsburg. On December 2, 1943, Janet was united in marriage to Garrit Leo Slagter. Janet was employed for over 40 years at Willmar Poultry Company. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church and served with the ladies aide. She enjoyed reading, embroidery, flowers and bird watching. In her retirement, Janet enjoyed watching the game show network playing bingo.

She is survived by her four children, Curt (and JoAnne) Slagter of Willmar, Carol (and Wesley) Bosch of Atwater, Gary (and Debra) Slagter of Clara City and Lonny Slagter of Priam; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, William (and Margaret) Visser of Lyndon, WA., and three sisters, Hilda (and Virgil) Bohlsen of Willmar, Marjorie Groen of Willmar and Ruth Van Hove of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garrit in 2005; and five brothers, Clarence, Doward, Harold, Raymond and David.
