Herman Marcus Obituary

  Herman Marcus April 21, 1918   --  Nov. 14, 2015             Herman Marcus, age 97, of Prinsburg, died Saturday evening, November 14, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.            Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 19, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg.  Interment will be at Holland Township Cemetery in Prinsburg.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, at the church and one hour prior to the service.  Memorials are preferred to Central Minnesota Christian School.  Arrangements are with  Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg (www.tricountyfuneral.com). Herman Marcus was born April 21, 1918, in Prinsburg, the son of Frank and Mattie (Ledeboer) Marcus.  He grew up in the Prinsburg community and attended the Prinsburg Christian School through eighth grade.  On November 16, 1939, he married Serena Brouwer at her parents’ home in Roseland.  In 1940, they began farming in rural Prinsburg.  In 1974, they moved into Prinsburg and continued farming until their retirement in 1982.  They had recently moved to Central Minnesota Senior Care in Lake Lillian.   Faith was very important to Herman and made sure to always share his faith with others.  Herman was an active member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he served as an elder, taught catechism, and was a member of the Men’s Society .  He also served on the Central Minnesota Christian School and Farmers Co-Op Elevator boards. His hobbies included golfing, bowling, playing cards, and visiting with friends and family.  He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is survived by  his wife, Serena; two children, Clinton (and LaVerna) Marcus and Doris (and Floyd) Schneck, both of Prinsburg; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alfred Marcus of Willmar, Melvin Marcus of Prinsburg, and Albert Marcus of Willmar; two sisters, Gerradina Stryker of Willmar and Henrietta Swart of Prinsburg; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dick Marcus; five sisters, Hermina Henderson, Alice LeCoq, Sarah Stob, Florence Tebben, and Grace Sportel; a granddaughter, Barbara Bond; and a great-grandson, Benjamin Marcus.
