Helen Annie Brouwer Dec. 26, 1922—Aug. 14, 2017 Helen Annie Brouwer, age 94, of Clara City, died Monday, August 14, at the Clara City Care Center following a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday August 18 at Bunde Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday August 17 at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg. Helen was born December 26, 1922, on the family farm in rural Renville, the daughter of Arnt and Annie (Santjer) Ahrenholz. She received her education in a country school through 8th grade. She was baptized and professed her faith at Emden Christian Reformed Church in Renville. On September 27, 1945, she married Alvin Brouwer at Emden Christian Reformed Church. They moved to the family farm near Clara City and lived there until their retirement, later moving into Clara City. Helen was a member of Bunde Christian Reformed Church, where she was an active member of Ladies Aid and sang in the church choir. She also volunteered at the New 2 You Thrift Store. Helen enjoyed gardening and taking care of her beloved chickens. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed getting together for meals and celebrating special occasions. She was always there to help out other people. Helen is survived by her three children: Byron (and Kathy) Brouwer of Prinsburg, Arvin (and Eileen) Brouwer of Prinsburg; and Marcea (and Lee) Holtrop of Grand Rapids, MI; six grandchildren and their spouses; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Johanna Bouma of Edgerton, and Elma Jane (and Mally) Smith of St. Paul; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Alvin in 2011; a daughter-in-law: Brenda Brouwer; three brothers: George Fuls, Lubbert Ahrenholz, and Alfred Ahrenholz; four sisters: Sadie Ryks, Alice Damhof, twin sister Annie Bulthuis, and Mary Mulder.
