Harold Honken Obituary

Harold Honken Mar. 21, 1936  -  Dec. 6, 2016               Harold Honken, age 80, of Raymond, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 6, at his home in Raymond.               Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 9, in the gymnasium of Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, December 8, at Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg (tricountyfuneral.com) and one hour prior to the service at the church.               Harold James Honken was born March 21, 1936, in Stoneham Township, Chippewa County, near Clara City, Minnesota, the son of Herman and Sarah (Andresen) Honken.  He received his early education in country school.  The family later moved to Raymond and Harold graduated from Raymond High School in 1954.  Following high school, he worked for Russ Pederson for a couple of years.  0n March 14, 1956, he entered the U.S. Navy and served until receiving his honorable discharge on October 15, 1957.  Following his discharge, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator by Berghuis Construction. He met Yvonne Freeman and they were married on December 1, 1959 at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City.  They began farming east of Raymond in 1967 and raised crops, hogs, and cattle.  After retiring from farming in 1999, he worked  part-time for Countertops Plus in Willmar for eleven years.               Harold was a lifelong member of Bethany Reformed Church, where he served as an usher, deacon and elder.  He enjoyed woodworking and loved to fish.  He was a charter member of the Raymond Lions Club and also served on the ASC Board.               He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Honken of Raymond; his children, Laura (and Todd) Mulliken of Edina, and  Andrew (and Sherilyn) Honken of Raymond; five grandchildren, Joshua (and Kaitlyn) Honken, Ashley Mulliken, Allyssa (and Andrew) Wheeler, Ben (and Shannon) Honken, and Sara (and Dan) Wanous; and a great-granddaughter, Iris Honken.  Also surviving are three brothers, Alvin (and Jean) Honken of Sibley, IA, Ronald (and Susan) Honken of Raymond, and David (and Mary) Honken of Blomkest; two sisters, Dorothy Bouwman of Owatonna, and Dianne (and Lloyd) Tebben of Olathe, KS; two brothers-in-law, Bob (and Clare) Freeman of Clarissa, and Russell Sietsema of Raymond; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.               He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gertrude Sietsema; and a great-granddaughter, Jillian Honken.
