Freida Gertrude Ledeboer (Groen) was born on June 18, 1935, on the family farm near Renville, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Aalderks) Groen.  She was raised on the family farm and attended country school through 8th grade.  She attended 9th & 10th grade in Prinsburg and graduated from Renville High School in 1953.  On July 7, 1953, Freida was married to Delroy Ledeboer and were blessed with 5 children.  They lived in Renville briefly before moving to Delroy’s family farm near Prinsburg.

Freida worked hard as a homemaker and kept busy with raising her daughters with special needs.  She also found time to teach piano lessons to many children in the community.  She loved helping Delroy on the farm and a highlight was bringing lunches out to the field.  After her last child left for college, Freida worked in the laundry department at Bethesda Nursing Home for over 25 years.  She enjoyed her co-workers and time spent with the residents.

Freida had a strong faith in the Lord and was active in many areas throughout her church.  She loved music and often played the organ or piano and sang for many occasions.  In the later years, Freida was active with the church ladies quilting group.

Delroy and Freida volunteered their time teaching special needs students in a program called “FRIENDSHIP”, and often cheered for them at the Special Olympics.  They also worked together at New-To-You and Cursillo.

Freida had a sense of humor and a great smile which made her a joy to be around.  She’s best remembered for her quick-wit and one-liners which always brought a smile to your face.  She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and visiting with family and friends.

She is survived by three children, Joel (and Susan) Ledeboer of Prinsburg, Jerome (and Robin) Ledeboer of Prinsburg and Dawn (and Chris) Sheward of Blooming Prairie; seven grandchildren, Matthew (and Jennifer) Ledeboer, Rachel (and Jacob) Gora, Rebecca (and Elmer) Ledeboer-Martinez, Jenny Zieske, Kate (and Brian) Fischer, Reggie Ledeboer and Cody Ledeboer; and eighteen great grandchildren.  Also surviving is one brother, George (and Betty) Groen of Thousand Oaks, CA., five sisters-in-law, Adeline Groen of Clara City, Char Groen of Willmar, Marge Groen of Willmar, Eleanor Ledeboer of Willmar and Lois Cook of Prinsburg and two brothers-in-law, Gerald “Bud” Ledeboer of Irving, TX., and Clarence (and Janet) Ledeboer of Minneapolis, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delroy in 2011; two daughters, Judy and Beverly; one grandson, Caleb Ledeboer and five brothers, Bennie, Don (and Hilda), Alvin, John (and Gladys) and Gerald Groen.
