Fred Grussing Obituary

, age 101, of Raymond, died Friday morning, October 25, at the Clara City Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, at the Raymond Christian Reformed Church.  Interment will be in the Bunde Christian Reformed Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, at the Raymond Christian Reformed Church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Memorials are preferred to Carris Health Rice Hospice.  Arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg, www.trucountyfuneral.com. Fred Henry Grussing was born on November 7, 1917, in Rheiderland Township, near Clara City, Minnesota, the son of Fred and Tomkey (Bontjes) Grussing.  He grew up and received his education in the rural Clara City area.  On December 15, 1942, he was married to Rena Zondervan at Emden Christian Reformed Church in Renville.  They lived in several areas of the United States while Fred served in the Army.  Fred served with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II.  Following his discharge, they made their home in rural Raymond, where Fred farmed for many years. Fred was an active member of the Raymond Christian Reformed Church and served 18 years on the church council.  He also served for nine years on the Raymond School Board, three years on the Lone Tree Township Board, and was a member of the American Legion.  Fred enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lake.  He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren and taught each of them how to fish and play cards. He is survived by three sons: Melvin (and Olivia) Grussing of Palmdale, CA, David (and Kathy) Grussing of Sauk Centre, MN, and Roger (and Deb) Grussing of Clara City, MN; a daughter: Connie (and Dave) Simonson of Austin, MN; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren (and another great-granddaughter on the way); sisters-in-law: Ruth Grussing of Clara City, MN, Tiena Zondervan of Raymond, MN and Ardis Zondervan of Prinsburg, MN; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Rena in 2014; three brothers: Bontje, Dick, and Joe; and six sisters: Hattie, Jennie, Rena, Tillie, Jessie, and Frieda.
