Forrest A. Slagter

Forrest Slagter, age 87, of Prinsburg, died Monday evening, October 22, at Olivia Rehabilitatio and Healthcare Center in Olivia. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 27, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg.  Interment will be at Holland Township Cemetery in Prinsburg.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials are preferred to Central Minnesota Christian School. Forrest Slagter was born October 12, 1931, to Trieko and Jennie (Ledeboer) Slagter on the family farm in Holland Township.  He received his education at Central Minnesota Christian School.  As a young man he worked for local farmers and Prinsburg Sodding.  He served his country while being stationed in Hakkaido, Japan during the Korean Conflict.  After his return home he worked in road construction.  He married Marilyn Bonnema in 1957 and five children were born to this union: Karla (Larry) Swart, Gayle (Marlyn) Tebben, Bob (Joan) Slagter, Nolan (Rhonda) Slagter, and Nathan (Sheila) Slagter. Forrest worked as a fertilizer specialist for Standard Oil.  During his retirement years, Forry enjoyed woodworking, quilt making, and baking.  He also enjoyed sports, especially the Slagter Turkey Bowl on Thanksgiving and the many softball games.  Ice hockey was also a favorite.   He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his five children and their spouses; fifteen grandchildren and nine in-laws; twetny-one great-grandchildren; a sister, Geneva Grussing; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in deathy by his parents; five sisters, Alma (Frank) Stifter, Elenor (Gerald) Kreps, Martha (Ed) Dykstra, Karen Taatjes, and Sylvia Slagter; five brothers, Gerald, Harvey, Ted, Stan, and Gary (Barbara) Slagter; and a great-grandchild, Hunter Tebben.
