Eugene Bonnema Obituary

, age 89, of Prinsburg, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday evening, February 21, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Interment will be at the Holland Township Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #167 of Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, February 26, at First Christian Reformed Church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to Central Minnesota Christian School.  Arrangements are with the Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg, www.tricountyfuneral.com. Eugene Edward Bonnema was born November 26, 1928, in Holland Township, near Prinsburg, Minnesota, the son of Evert and Jennie (Strootman) Bonnema, He grew up in the Prinsburg community, attended Central Minnesota Christian School and later Clara City High School, graduating in 1946. He made his profession of faith at First Christian Reformed Church. Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On June 25, 1954, he married Ann Deloris Tebben at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. He attended watchmaking school in Kansas City. Gene worked as a heavy equipment operator for Duininck Brothers for over 35 years. Gene was an active member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he had served as a deacon in the past. He also volunteered at the Bibles for Mission and New 2 You Thrift Stores for several years. He enjoyed camping with his family and spending 20 wonderful winters in Sarasota Bay, Florida with his wife. He was a very loving, patient, and compassionate husband and father to his wife and four sons. He is survived by his wife: Ann Bonnema of Prinsburg; four sons: Brad Bonnema of Prinsburg, Jeff (and Kelly) Bonnema of East Bethel, Clyde (and Denise) Bonnema of Mound, and Barry Bonnema of Edmonton, KY; seven grandchildren: Melanie Bonnema, Crystal Annis, Thomas Bonnema, Michael Bonnema, Justin (and Kali) Bonnema, Tyler Bonnema, and Alex Morgan; and seven great-grandchildren: Aliciana Jokinen, Brenton Bonnema, Rylan Bonnema, Emmett Bonnema, Ariella Bonnema, Kirbie Bonnema, and Chase Bonnema; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Jerry Bonnema and Edward Bonnema; and three sisters: Nellie Den Ouden, Wilhelmina Schutte, and Geneva Bonnema.
