Doward Visser

Doward Visser, age 98, of Willmar and formerly of Raymond, passed away Tuesday morning, April 21, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, at the Rock of Life Church in Willmar.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements are with the Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg.  www.tricountyfuneral.com

Doward Visser was born on August 31, 1921, on the family farm in Holland Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Grace (Nype) Visser.  He grew up in the Prinsburg community, received his education at District #99 school and began farming with his family.  On October 23, 1942, Doward was united in marriage to Sylvia Berghuis.  They lived and farmed in the Prinsburg and Raymond communities.  In 1986, they retired and moved into Willmar.  Doward & Sylvia enjoyed spending 17 winters down in Alamo, Texas.  He was a former member and deacon at the Raymond Christian Reformed Church and current member of the Rock of Life Church in Willmar.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing card games and spending time with his family, especially going on the 10-day family vacations and the monthly Visser family meals.  He also enjoyed volunteering for various bible missions.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia of Willmar; two children, Sharon (and Wallace) Van Eps of Willmar and Leon (and Marlene) Visser of Raymond; four grandchildren; Brian (and Kari) Van Eps, Kris (and Scott) Sorenson, Jodi (and Joey) Kurtz and Joel Visser; six great grandchildren, Justin & Kailey Van Eps, Amber (and John) Schwarte,  Kyle Sorenson, Adyson & Brody Kurtz; and one great great grandson, Isaiah John Schwarte.  Also surviving is one brother, William (and Margaret) Visser of Lynden, WA.; four sisters, Janet Slagter, Hilda (and Virgil) Bohlson, Ruth Van Hove and Marjorie Groen, all of Willmar and two sisters-in-law, Florence Visser and Bea Visser, both of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harold, Raymond, Clarence and David; three brothers-in-law, Ted Van Hove, Gerald Groen and Gerrit Slagter and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Visser and Muriel Visser.
