Doris Mae (Tazelaar) Roelofs was born on August 6, 1938, in Holland Township to Mark and Bertha (Sankey) Tazelaar. Doris grew up in the Raymond community, was crowned Homecoming Queen and graduated from Raymond High School in 1956. On June 4, 1957, at the Raymond Christian Reformed Church, she was united in marriage to Donald Roelofs following his service in the United States Army. The couple was blessed with four children and resided on a farm in the Prinsburg area.

Doris enjoyed many things and yet claimed to like everything plain! She loved baking, cooking, watching the Twins baseball games, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She would often be found working on a word find or writing in her journal. She played piano for Sunday School when she was younger.  Doris was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church where she enjoyed attending Bible Studies and Ladies Aid.  She was also a member of the Doris Club. Donald and Doris loved to travel and shared many memories of their several adventures. She worked as a CNA at the Clara City Nursing Home, Rice Memorial Hospital, Renvilla Nursing Home and Sunrise Village. Doris would work nights so she could be home in time to get her children off to school. She loved caring for others and always had a smile for anyone she would meet. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and asking them all, “What does the cow say?”or “How big are you?- SO big”.

In the short time that she was at Bethesda, she was loved by the staff who cared for her. They reflected on how she was always smiling and how sweet and kind she was. That is how she was...always smiling and always so kind and caring. She taught all of her children and grandchildren how to love. She was much loved because she loved much.

She is survived by her husband, Donald of Renville, daughter Julie (Brad) Link of Renville, son Joel (Gail) Roelofs of Allendale, MI, son Kevin (Darlene) Roelofs of Willmar, and daughter Kristine (John) Meyer of Ortonville; her grandchildren Heidi Link, Justin (Sarah) Roelofs, Heather Link, Jed (Kristi) Roelofs, Hollie (Garrett) Hovland, Brittany (Josh) Potter, Samantha (Chris) Carruth, Derek (Darcy) Roelofs, Kaitlyn (Brent) Hanko, Miranda Roelofs (and special friend Eric), and Erin Meyer (and fiance’ Dylan); 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Ruth Ann (Dennis) Bredeson and Betty (Charles) Schwitters, and brother-in-law Lowell (Marilyn) Marcus; sisters-in-law Marletta Tazelaar and Jean Tazelaar and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Bertha Tazelaar; brothers Waldron, Donald, and Mike Tazelaar, sister Janet Marcus, and sister-in-law Aretta Tazelaar, and a great granddaughter, Norah.

Blessed be her memory!
