Dennis Meyer Obituary

June 30, 1941  -  February 19, 2016 , age 74, of Willmar, died Friday evening, February 19, at Rice Memorial Hospital.   Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, at the First Reformed Church in Willmar.  Interment will be in Roseland Reformed Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, at the First Reformed Church and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.    Dennis Wayne Meyer was born on June 30, 1941, in Prinsburg, Minnesota, the son of Gerrit and Tina (Asche) Meyer.  He grew up in the Prinsburg community and received his education form the Central Minnesota Christian School.  On August 30, 1963, Dennis was united in marriage to Elmyra Jean Zuidema and they made their home on a farm near Blomkest.  In 1966, they moved into Willmar.  Dennis was employed for many years with the Kandiyohi County Soil and Water Conservation District.  He later established Lakeland Nursery and Power Equipment and in the late 1980’s founded Uncommon Inc.  Following retirement in 2000, Dennis worked part time as a car salesman and a delivery route person for Nelsen’s Cleaners.  He was a member of the First Reformed Church and served as an Elder, Deacon and Sunday School teacher.  His hobbies included photography, flowers, trees, collecting tractors and cars and feeding the birds.  Dennis also enjoyed coffee and coffee breaks with his family and friends.   He is survived by his loving wife, Elmyra of Willmar; two children, Steven (and Sharlotte) Meyer of Brooten and Rebecca Meyer (and Ty Meng) of Andover; three grandchildren, Mitchell, Joey and Liam; and one sister, Diane (and Douglas) Meyer of Kalamazoo, Michigan, one nephew, Tim (and Amy) Meyer of Kalamazoo, Michigan and one niece, Tami Meyer (and David) of LaHabra, California, besides other relatives and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents.
