Chelda Grace Leininger died on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the age of 24, peacefully at her home, surrounded by family.
Born on June 19, 2001, in Haiti, she was brought to Children of the Promise in Lagossette, Haiti, near Cap Haitien, at an early age. In 2010, she was adopted by Chuck and Sandy (Schulz) Leininger in Prinsburg, Minnesota. Chelda attended Central Minnesota Christian School from 2010 to 2020 and was a member of the Unity Christian Reformed Church congregation from 2010 until her passing.
Before her adoption, the stories and images of her joy and laughter were already making their way from Haiti to the Leininger home, and she quickly became a part of our hearts. She became our daughter and sister before we ever met in person. Even through her physical limitations and pain, her joy was evident to all and left a lasting impression. Her contagious smile touched everyone around her.
Chelda had a deep love for the Lord and blessed many with her freedom of worship as she praised her Savior. She cherished her family and loved spending quality time with those close to her. Chelda has finished her race and kept the faith, filling our lives with joy. Now, she walks in pure joy in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Chelda is survived by her parents, Chuck and Sandra Leininger; seven siblings: John (and Jenny) Leininger, Krista (and Jeremiah) Slagter, Kaitlyn (and Stephen) Vogel, Shara (and Tyler) Beekman, Joshua Leininger, Neika Leininger, and Josiah Leininger. Also surviving are nine nephews: Jackson, Charlie, Hawken, Micah, Ollie, Jordan, August, Otto, and Maverick; and seven nieces: Maddie, Oaklie, Annie, Laken, Adelaide, Everly, and Flora. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Mert Schulz; paternal grandmothers, Joanne Nygord and Linda Leininger; 12 aunts and uncles; many cousins; and countless other relatives and friends.
Chelda was preceded in death by her brother, Jordan Leininger; maternal grandfather, Otto Schulz; paternal grandfathers, John Leininger and Dennis Nygord.
