Boyd Folkerts, age 88 of Clara City, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at the Clara City Care Center. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Bunde Christian Reformed Church near Clara City. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Boyd was born on February 20, 1933 to Simon and Helen (Freiborg) Folkerts, at the family home in Raymond, MN. Boyd served in the United State Army and was stationed in France as a military policeman from 1953 to 1955. After being honorably discharged in 1955, he returned home to the Raymond area.
Boyd was united in marriage to his “honey” Minnie Meyer on January 10, 1957 at Bunde CRC in Clara City. They were blessed with 6 children: Verla, Dalen, Larry, Jolene, Sheila, and Joel.
The first 3 years of marriage they farmed near the Raymond area. For 44 years after that, he worked for the Clara City Telephone Company in communications. He so called “retired” but continued to work for another 17 years driving truck for the Prinsburg Farmers Co-op.
Boyd was a faithful member of the Bunde Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon. Boyd’s faith was very important to him. His family will always remember his beautiful, unique prayer before every meal.
Boyd loved to be with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time with his family was most precious to him. He had a great sense of humor and was always quick with a joke. He also loved to play cards, flying his ultralight airplane, riding his Spider motorcycle, and spending the winters for 31 years in Florida. Boyd was a kind, caring and soft-hearted man that will be deeply missed.
Boyd is survived by his loving wife of 64 years and 10 months, Minnie of Clara City; his children: Verla (Cliff) Manson of Hanska, Dalen (Verla) Folkerts of Prinsburg, Larry (Londa) of Glenwood, Jolene (Neil) Vander Lugt of Renville, Sheila (Paul Swartzer Significant other) Folkerts of Clara City, Joel (Deb) Folkerts of Renville; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild; 2 brothers: Ernie (Mary) Folkerts of Kerkhoven, Gary Folkerts of Clara City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and brother-in-laws: Jeanette(Merlin) Freese, Irene (Orville) Koenen; and 2 grandchildren: Shawn Folkerts and Kayla Kleinhuizen.
