Andrew Nelson Obituary

Andrew Nelson September 25, 1973—October 11, 2015              Andrew “Andy” J. Nelson, age 42, of Belle Plaine, Minnesota, died Sunday afternoon, October 11, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.               Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M., Friday, October 16, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg, Minnesota.  The interment will be in the Holland Township Cemetery near Prinsburg.  Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. Thursday at the church, with a public prayer service Thursday 7 P.M and the visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.   Andy was born in Eugene, Oregon, on September 25, 1973, to Elden and Faith (Hanson) Nelson. As a young boy, he developed normally and enjoyed learning and interacting with people of all ages. He especially loved Bible stories and heartily sang Sunday School songs. At age 5, Andy’s life was challenged by a bout of encephalitis, which left him unable to hear or speak. While he knew suffering in this life due to many debilitating medical conditions and long hospital stays, he also knew the grace of a good God.  This grace was evident in joy, a gentle spirit, and contentment in knowing the love of family members and staff who so diligently cared for him. He is survived by his parents, Elden and Faith Nelson of Prinsburg; a sister, Tricia (Brad) Nelson of Prinsburg; brothers, Benjamin (Linn Monica) of Stavanger, Norway, and Mikal (Hilary) of San Diego, California; paternal grandparents, Andrew and Helen Hanson of Minneapolis; nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as his extended family at Hope Residence and Scott County New Options. His paternal grandparents, Earl and Alma Nelson, and an uncle, Arnold Dyrdahl, preceded him in death. The miracle that was hoped for on earth is now being realized – Andy is now able to hear his Savior’s voice and sing the song of the redeemed. His family looks forward to joining him one day.
