Alfred Marcus May 18, 1920 - July 25, 2017 Alfred Marcus, age 97, of Prinsburg, died Tuesday morning, July 25, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Golden Valley, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 28, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, July 27, at the Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg and will continue at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment with military honors will be at Holland Township Cemetery.  Marcus was born May 18, 1920 in Prinsburg, Minnesota, the son of Frank and Mattie (Ledeboer) Marcus. He grew up in the Prinsburg community, attended the Prinsburg Christian School through 8th grade and went on to graduate from high school in Clara City, MN in 1939. After graduation, he worked for Berghuis Construction. In 1941, was drafted in the U.S. Army. He served in WW II as a Platoon Commander with the 32nd Armored Regiment of the 3rd Armored Division. He served in France, Belgium and Germany with the Battle of the Bulge being the most notable battle. At wars end, the 3rd Armored Division liberated Dora-Mettelbau camp in Nordhausen Germany. For his service, earned the numerous medals, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Distinguished Service Medal and the French Legion Honor, which he just received 3 years ago. On February 13, 1947, was united in marriage to Martha Swart and together they began farming in the Prinsburg area and raised three children. In 1958, he began working for Tire Treads Inc. in Prinsburg. In 1962, he began working as a road construction foreman for Duininck Brothers Construction until his retirement in May of 1985. He continued to live in Prinsburg for the next 30 years. In October of 2015, moved briefly to Willmar and in September of 2016 moved to Covenant Village in Minneapolis, where he resided till his death. His faith was most important to him. trusted in his Lord and Savior. He was an active member of First CRC, where he served as a deacon, elder and member of men’s society. He also served on the board of Central MN Christian School. He volunteered at the Bibles for Missions Thrift store. enjoyed coffee time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, golfing and bowling. Most of all he cherished time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. will be remembered for his strong faith, honorable military service, positive attitude, his love of children and having a quick wit. He is survived by three children, Cheryl (and Burt) Boonstra of Edina, Ardell “Del” (and Susan) Marcus of Ham Lake, and Marilee (and Allen) Schut of Muskegon, MI.; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Melvin Marcus of Prinsburg and Albert Marcus of Redwood Falls; two sisters, Gerradina Stryker of Willmar and Henrietta Swart of Prinsburg; and two sisters-in-law, Serena Marcus and Berdina Marcus both of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha in 2007; two brothers, Dick and Herman; five sisters and their spouses, Alice (and John) LeCoq, Hermina (and Kenneth) Henderson, Sarah Roelofs (and Leonard) Stob, Florence (and Harry) Tebben and Grace (and George) Sportel; two brothers-in-law, Fred Stryker and Henry Swart; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Marcus and Carol Marcus and a special granddaughter, Tracy Schut.
