Alden Vernard Van Der Pol was born on October 24, 1941 on the family farm near Blomkest, Minnesota, the son of John and Violet Sadie (Marcus) Van Der Pol. He grew up in the Priam area, attended country school there and was baptized on December 7, 1941 at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg, which he was a life member. Alden completed his education at Central Minnesota Christian School in Prinsburg. He worked on the family farm until 1960, when he went into basic training for the National Guard at Fort Ord, California, for six months. When he returned from basic training, he went to work for Marcus Construction and was with them for 45 years, mostly as a truck driver. He moved to Big Kandi Lake in 1981 and resided there until 2015 when he moved to the Clara City Living Center and then to the Clara City Care Center in 2016. He loved being with family and friends and enjoyed sailing, playing on Horseshoe Leagues, and traveling. Alden even traveled to Hawaii a couple of winters with his bike and road around Hawaii and camped for the winter. He also donated his time with the Minnesota DNR, scouting and counting the eagle population in our area for a couple of years. He is survived by his seven siblings: Shirley Van Kley of West Columbia, SC, Jeryl Van Der Pol of Raymond, Gary Van Der Pol of Atwater, Duaine (and Marlene) Van Der Pol of Montevideo, Leon Van Der Pol of Crystal, Debra Van Der Pol of Hastings and Randall Van Der Pol of Prinsburg. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends. Alden was preceded in death by his parents, one sister-in-law, Mary Van Der Pol, one niece and two nephews.
