Charles Schwitters Obituary

 

Charles H. Schwitters, age 79, of Clara City, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, December 29, at his residence.

 

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, at Bunde Christian Reformed Church.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg.  www.tricountyfuneral.com

 

Charles “Chuck” Herman Schwitters was born on March 24, 1944, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Enno and Hermena (Meyer) Schwitters.  He grew up in Clara City and received his education at Central Minnesota Christian School in Prinsburg.  On December 7, 1962, at the Raymond Christian Reformed Church, Charles was united in marriage to Betty Jane Tazelaar and they made their home in the Clara City community.  Chuck was engaged in farming until a farm accident in 1981.  In 1987, he began working at BNSF Railroad as a Brakeman and retired in 2009.  He was a life member of Bunde Christian Reformed Church.  He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, collecting toy tractors, attending farm auctions, a love of western shirts and boots and being Betty’s chauffeur.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years, Betty; three daughters, Verla (and Dalen) Folkerts of Prinsburg, Diane (and Clinton) Knorr of Hutchinson and Jill (and Kirk) Eriksen; five grandchildren, Jamie (Roy) Duininck, Leah Krick, Derek (Jenna) Folkerts, Lucas (Kayla) Zuidema, and Lane (Joanna) Zuidema; seven great grandchildren, Breanna, Silas, Hudson, and Lucy Duininck, Xavier Krick, Elliana Zuidema, and Lora Zuidema; and three siblings,  Judy (and Henry) Gunnink of Inver Grove Heights, Bradley (and Carolyn) Schwitters of Pahrump, NV., and Brian (and Sheryl) Schwitters of Clara City, besides other relatives and many friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mark Schwitters; two grandsons, Jason Zuidema and Cole Zuidema; and four great grandchildren.
